The documentary explores Amy Goodman and her contributions to journalism, from her reporting on 1991 East Timor massacre by US led Indonesian troops to being the host on the news broadcast, Democracy Now!.
It is an celebration of her life whilst at the same time showcasing the need and the importance for investigative journalism, making it extremely relevant today`s climate with censorship on the rise across the world and the rise of the far right and the targeting of journalists in places like Palestine, Lebanon, USA, the UK and so on.
Amy Goodman is an hero for her work on reporting a 1998 organized campaign of violence and intimidation by foreign oil companies against Nigerian locals in the takeover of their native land; the suspect official reporting on the environmental toxicity from the 9/11 attacks in New York; the manufactured consent for the US War on Iraq; the suppression, arrests and beatings of reporters at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota as well as her current reporting on the Trump regime.
Many of which would have been ignored or blocked by mainstream media who often use footage and stories from the work that Democracy Now! do, which she encourages to get the story out hence the phrase: “steal this story, please!”.
The documentary tells the life of Amy Goodman, from her Long Island Jewish upbringing to her work and other stuff including her off-camera life, combining recent interviews with other footage to showcase her importance in a dying field.
The film is a must watch as it is quite vocal on how mainstream media outlets have declined and why the efforts and work of journalists like Goodman are so vital, highlighting the stories of the oppressed masses.
