Based on the events on the 1977 Indianapolis Hostage Standoff, where Tony Kiritsis held Richard Hall Hostage. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the crime thriller is both intense and thrilling as it explores the tension between Tony (played by Bill Skarsgard) and the police as well as exploring how he became a national hero for standing up against an mortgage company.
Standout stars would be Colman Domingo who plays the DJ Fred Temple and Al Pacino who plays M.L, the father to Richard. The memorable scene would be when Richard was in the bathtub and has a nightmare of a shootout between Tony and the Police and him entering with blood on his face.
The start and the end of the film are the best parts as it builds and ends harmoniously and it drags for bit in the middle especially with scenes between Tony and the hostage but the tension created is palpable and great.
Its a great well-crafted film for True Crime lovers but its quite a muted thriller with a lot of nothing happening but it is relevant today as it shows the little guy standing up against a corporation, which can be seen with the United Healthcare CEO assassination by Luigi Mangione.
